The Importance of Monitoring River Water Discharge

River discharge time series, originally recorded to anticipate floods and water scarcity, later became indispensable design hydroelectric dams. Presently, monitoring aids in detecting climatic environmental change, because the quality of river are functions many climatic, biological, geological, topographic variables coexisting basin. Climate change is altering atmospheric precipitation distribution pattern-both, space-as well as occurrence extreme events. It important global upgrading gauging networks unveil hydrological trends changing patterns. In so doing, stations–and resulting series-may be, well, invaluable revealing role played by significant variables.
